System replacement
When it's time to talk about a new system
Repair is the right call more often than people expect. These are the signs that the conversation about replacing should start.
The repair price keeps climbing
Each repair is smaller than a new system, but they add up.
The unit is old and the part is hard to find
A long wait for parts at the height of summer is a cost too.
The refrigerant leaks again
A repeat leak in an old coil rarely stays fixed.
The house never cools evenly
Sometimes the unit is the wrong size, and sometimes it's the ducts.
The electric bill has crept up
An old unit works harder for the same cooling.
The outdoor unit is rusted or noisy
Look at it from the street in daylight.
The written price
What a replacement price lists
No dollar totals in this list, because yours is written for your house. Every line below is on it.
- 01
Step 1: The size, and how it was chosen
A load calculation for your house, not a guess from the old unit.
- 02
Step 2: The equipment, by model
The outdoor unit, the indoor coil and the thermostat, named.
- 03
Step 3: Duct condition
What we found, and what the new system needs from the ducts.
- 04
Step 4: The permit and the electrical work
Pulled by us, and listed as lines of their own.
- 05
Step 5: Removal of the old system
The old unit and its refrigerant, handled and hauled away.
- 06
Step 6: The warranty terms
Parts and labor, in writing, with how long the price holds.
About replacing
How long does an air conditioner last here?
Heat and dust are hard on outdoor units, and ages vary a lot from house to house. We write down the age and condition of your system, and if repair isn't the right call we put the repair price and the price of a new system side by side.
Does a replacement need a permit?
In most Valley cities, yes. The permit is on the written price for the new system, and we pull it.
Will you tell me if I should repair instead?
Yes. If the repair is the better value we say so, and you pay the service call and nothing more.
Want a price for a new system next to the repair?
Tell us the age of the unit and what it's doing. We write both prices.
