Ducts and attic
Cooling that never reaches the room
In a Valley attic the ducts sit in the hottest air in the house. A loose joint or a crushed run wastes cooling before it arrives.
One room is always warmer
Often a run that has come loose or been flattened.
Dust blows from the vents
A split duct pulls attic air into the system.
The unit runs all afternoon
Cooling is escaping into the attic.
Insulation is torn or missing
Rodents and old repairs leave gaps.
The air handler sweats
Condensation on the ducts, or around the air handler.
The bill rose and nothing else changed
Duct leaks are quiet.
The work
What we do in the attic
- 01
Step 1: Look first
We check the runs, the joints and the insulation, and tell you what we see.
- 02
Step 2: Seal and strap
Joints sealed with mastic, runs strapped so they don't sag.
- 03
Step 3: Rebalance
Dampers and registers set so the far rooms get air.
- 04
Step 4: Test after
We read the airflow in the rooms that complained.
The price
What moves the price of duct work
How much of the system we can reach
A tight attic with no walkway takes longer.
The size and layout of the runs
A long, branched system has more joints.
How many sections need replacing
Sealing is one job, replacing a run is another.
Insulation that must be redone
Added where it's torn or missing.
About ducts
Will cleaning the ducts fix a hot room?
Rarely. A hot room is usually a leak, a crushed run or a balance problem, and sealing and rebalancing fix those. We tell you what we find, and we don't promise health results from cleaning.
Do you work in the attic in summer?
We schedule duct work for the cooler parts of the day and the cooler months, because the attic is hard on crews and on the work itself.
Have one room that won't cool?
Tell us which room and what time of day it's worst.
