Air conditioner repair

When the unit runs and the house doesn't cool

Most no-cooling calls come down to a few parts and a dirty coil. We test in the same order every time and tell you what we found before anyone starts the repair.

Signs it needs a visit

  • The unit hums but the fan doesn't spin

  • Air from the vents is warm or only slightly cool

  • Ice on the copper lines or the indoor coil

  • Water around the indoor unit

  • The breaker trips when the unit starts

  • The thermostat is blank, or the system cycles on and off

At the visit

What we do, in order

  1. 01

Step 1: Test the power and the thermostat

Most no-starts begin here, and it costs nothing to rule out.

  2. 02

Step 2: Check the capacitor, contactor and fans

The parts that wear out first in a hot climate.

  3. 03

Step 3: Read the refrigerant pressures

Low pressure means a leak, and a leak gets a written price of its own.

  4. 04

Step 4: Check the coil and the drain

Dust on the coil and a clogged drain cause more no-cooling calls than people expect.

  5. 05

Step 5: Write the price, then ask

You see the repair price and decide. The work starts after you say yes.

The price

What moves the price of a repair

The service call is one flat fee. The repair is priced in writing after the diagnosis.

  • Which part failed

A capacitor and a compressor are very different repairs.

  • Refrigerant type and amount

Some systems use refrigerants that cost more to recharge.

  • The age of the system

Parts for older units can take longer to get, and that goes in the written price.

  • Where the unit sits

A rooftop or a tight attic closet takes more time to reach.

  • Finding an intermittent fault

A problem that comes and goes takes longer to catch.

About repairs

Should I keep running it if the air is warm?

No. Switch the system to off at the thermostat and call us. Running a unit that isn't cooling can ice the coil or strain the compressor, and the repair gets bigger.

Can I text you a photo of the unit?

Yes. Text the label on the outdoor unit, or the whole unit, to (602) 555-0101. It helps dispatch know what we are bringing.

Can you fix it at the first visit?

If the part is on the truck, often yes. If it isn't, we tell you when we can bring it and what the visit will have covered.

Cooling stopped? Call now.

Dispatch picks up from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. The service call comes off the repair when you approve it.
